Barrister M. Amir-ul Islam is a distinguished Bangladeshi lawyer and politician, renowned for his pivotal contributions to the nation’s legal and political landscape. Born on February 2, 1936, in Kushtia, Bengal Province, British India, he has played a significant role in shaping Bangladesh’s history. 
Islam completed his bachelor’s degree in political science, economics, and general history from the University of Dhaka in 1956. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, London, in 1961, marking the beginning of his illustrious legal career.
During the tumultuous period leading up to Bangladesh’s independence, Islam emerged as a key figure. He drafted the Proclamation of Independence in 1971, a document he described as the “birth certificate” of Bangladesh. This proclamation was read at the oath-taking ceremony of the Mujibnagar Government on April 17, 1971. Following independence, he served as a member of the drafting committee for the Bangladesh Constitution in 1972 and held the position of State Minister of Food from of the Government of Bangladesh during 1973–74.
